If your car does not have an LCD screen or a rearview camera, you can install a rearview mirror connected to a rearview camera. Some mirrors coupled to a camera are even multifunctional, allowing you to use various applications. We tell you everything about the rearview camera mirror in this article!
Rearview mirror reversing camera: characteristics
The reversing camera mirror is an accessory that can be installed on a vehicle in order to look directly into the interior mirror during reversing manoeuvres, rather than on a screen installed lower than the driver’s usual field of vision.
More precisely, it is a rear view mirror in which an LCD screen is integrated or an LCD screen in the form of a rearview mirror. In this case, it is mounted on a mirror frame and coupled to a reversing camera installed at the rear of the vehicle.
Its characteristics are as follows:
It can be attached by clips to the already existing interior mirror, or replace it if it is a type of LCD mirror provided for this purpose, which can be glued to the windshield instead of the original model.
It works thanks to a WiFi transceiver.
The panoramic viewing angle in the rearview mirror is between 120 and 170°. Different coloured limits indicate to the driver the distance and the risk of collision with what is behind, the latter system being disengage able.
The reversing camera mirror can, using a memory card, record photos or videos taken by the camera.
Some models can even replace the LCD screen of a touchscreen car radio. They offer the possibility of controlling the car radio, GPS, web navigation and many existing computer applications.
The reversing camera supplied with the mirror is installed on the rear license plate holder.
The device can also have a front camera and a buffer battery powered by a charger connected to the cigarette lighter or to a power outlet allowing it to have an independent power supply if it has a detection function of movements. This automatically records what passes in front of the objectives of the two cameras as well as during an impact while the vehicle is parked, starting or braking.
Reversing camera mirror operation
This device is powered by a cable and a plug for mains, cigarette lighter or USB DC 12 V for the car. When the reversing camera rearview mirror offers various functions and applications, they are operated by a touch pen.
It starts automatically when the car is in motion or permanent with the buffer battery when it exists and is connected.
Features of the reversing camera mirror
The main advantages of this accessory are:
- Allowing you to guide you in reverse by simply looking in your rearview mirror, with the display of colour guides on the screen. This saves you the trouble of physically twisting to see where you are going through your vehicle’s rear window or having to use the side mirrors on a utility vehicle.
- The reversing camera mirror eliminates blind spots. It allows you to better see pedestrians and cyclists, or young children who can pass quickly behind your car without being able to see them without this accessory. He can therefore prevent you from hitting someone.
The comfort in manoeuvring offered by the reversing camera mirror means that you will not be able to do without it. If the system breaks down, or you use a car that is not equipped with it, you will lose your usual bearings and reflexes and will have to readjust to manoeuvring.
